As a first year teacher with seven preps, I remember the overwhelm and the panic I felt every day of the summer leading up to the school year. By the time school started I was exhausted. I had only a few days with my mentor teacher before he was diagnosed with cancer and eventually passed away. I was solo as a first year teacher, finding my own way, and trying to support his long term sub. I was grateful for the summer of preparation I put in, but I am convinced there is a better way.
